Mike Alexandrov, the former USA national teamster and Bulgarian Olympic swimmer before his switch of sporting nationality, has been handed a 12-month doping suspension after he tested positive for benzoylecgonine and methylecgonine, metabolites of cocaine.
The decision was announced by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The positive sample was returned in competition from the Santa Clara round of the U.S. Pro Swim Series on June 4 last year. Now 32, Alexandrov* raced for Bulgaria at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games before switching to the U.S. from 2010 and was a member of the USA gold-medal 4x100m medley quartets at the 2010 and 2012 World s/c titles.
