The trials-season assault on the world rankings began in earnest this morning as Italy’s best took the plunge at nationals in Riccione, Nicolo Martinenghi, 18 this year, cracking out a 26.97 to become the second sub-27 of 2017 over 50m breaststroke after World champion Adam Peaty.
