In the opening final on day 2 at the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Christian Sprenger (AUS) converted a season of supreme consistency into gold with a 58.79 victory over Olympic champion Cameron Van Der Burgh (RSA), on 58.97, the triumph going some way to settling a score over the London 2012 underwater dolphin-kicking controversy
