Dana Vollmer swimming 53.59 in the heats at Charlotte with the final still to come puts her as No. 1 U.S. sprinter so far this year. I did not expect her to be a player in this event at all but suddenly……..

Fascinating to hear that the “50 free is going to be a shootout” at US trials. I for one was expecting a long, cerebral, chess-like determination.
