Germany’s Olympic double sprint freestyle champion of 2008 Britta Steffen announced her retirement today with less than a year to go to a home European Championships in Berlin next summer; sprinter doubted she had the “necessary motivation and energy for one or even three more years in competition for gold medals and championship titles”
