wow some really good times being swum there, relative to the Aussie championships last week.. men’s 4x100m medley would be competitive for China this year

Li Zhouhao looks to be the real deal. 16 and improving! He nearly ran down Schooling in the last 5m of the Asian Games in the 100 fly, and he definitely doesn’t have the underwaters of the best fliers in the world. China’s medley relay are looking very dangerous.

Just based off PBs (relays included)

Xu Jiayu: 52.34
Li Xiang: 1:00.14 (Individual, probably faster)
Li Zhouhao: 51.41 (probably faster this year)
Ning Zetao: 46.91

That adds to a very respectable 3:30.8. If China can solve it’s breastroke woes it is a serious contender for a podium place if not gold.

3:30.08 would most definitely get them to medal.

And yes, if Li Xiang can get faster by 0.5-1.0 they would pose extremely strong challenge to the USA.

I think it will be tough for China to pull It off , but it’s a big possibility that they could dethrone the U.S. in this event !

Rafael

And based on history.. when playing with the big guys outside home waters they will deliver almost nothing…

So, any prediction of any chinese swimmers cannot be considered for real before they actually do it outside China with all the big guns playing together..

HKSWIMMER

That’s a bit harsh Rafael – China has consistently been competitive in the 4×200 Fr relay at least.

Rafael

Sun yang has been consistent.. and some of the freestylers..

But the “new faces” we see on local meets are not faces on the international meets.. On international we always see the same.

2 3 years ago we saw a 13 year old girl swim a 8:20 800 free.. after that no news.. and that is quite common, someone goes an amazing time on China Nationals… they don´t get into national team (Can´t understand why..) and they disappear after that.

felixdangerpants

Rafael the only one talking any sense here. They are no chance of beating USA.

chinesesupreme

Very strange, Rafael.
China is finishing among the 3 top nations in the last 4-5 years in World Championships or Olympics. And please, do not say that chinese swimming is restricted to Sun Yang !!

Rafael

Chinesesupreme

Last years..all china medallists who were consistent

Sun Yang (Of the 9 medals of 2013 4 were due to him)
Ye Shiwen
The 200 flyer duo of Liu and Jyao.
Wu Peng

All countries have superstars.. no problem in that.. but every year at China games we see off the chart times..but after that where all these swimmers go?
