Even being very critical toward Franklin I have to admit that the way she was trying to support Ledecky at the end of the race was very touching.

This event looks wide open to me, Its anyone’s race, just .7s separating the top 8 after semis, with nobody really showing their best!

aswimfan

And Sjostrom does not have any event to swim either yesterday or today…….

gheko

Yes well when you look at Katies schedule, she is making the sprinters look soft!

Yozhik

@gheko. Shen Duo, Franklin and Ledecky showed their season bests today.

gheko

Well hopefully they will all go faster than 1.56 in the final!

Yozhik

The lineup of the final is very confusing. This race will be about racing not about time. The way how lanes were assigned makes it absolutely unclear who will chase who.
1 HEEMSKERK Femke NED
2 POPOVA Veronika RUS
3 SHEN Duo CHN
4 PELLEGRINI Federica ITA
5 FRANKLIN Missy USA
6 HOSSZU Katinka HUN
7 LEDECKY Katie USA
8 MCKEON Emma
Only Franklin and Pellegrini will be well aware of the position and tactics of each other. Probably Famke wants to win being unnoticed by others and getting them off guard 🙂

gheko

If they do not go fast Katie will win this, the only hope for the others is to take it out fast!

Yozhik

I agree with gheko. If it would be in reach then Katie will do impossible on the way home to get first at the wall. Only Pelligrini can match her with such determination

Personal Best

Far more exciting than the men’s event; the tactics will be interesting.

I don’t know what Ledecky can pull out, but I’m excited to see what she can do.
I don’t think she cares who she’s swimming next to; she seems to swim her own race quite well.

I also wouldn’t write off Pellegrini.

I am going to put this out here.
Tonight’s final will be a let down. It will not be a showdown, it will be a whole bunch of swimmers all watching each other cautiously, waiting for one to go…

That lane line-up is interesting. Heemskerk and Popova beside each other in one and two might fire each other on and take it out too fast (something they’ve both done before anyway). It’s probably a big help for Ledecky to be at the other side of the pool, as she could have ended up by their feet 50m in. Past half way the middle lanes will start to respond and catch the early leaders, then on the last 50 Ledecky starts to close. If the race is 210m she gets past and wins; at 200m, well… I still give her the touch.
