Audrey Lacroix: I was In Shock (Photo by Ian MacNicol)

Audrey Lacroix took bronze in 2006 on butterfly at the Commonwealth Games for Canada and then stepped up to a silver lining four years later over 200m in Delhi. In Glasgow today she went one better still, no longer a bridesmaid, this her big day at last, the crown on her head in 2:07.61

Well done to Audrey in a very open field. Slow times though and an event which has really come to a stand still in recent years. Groves looked nothing like the swimmer she was in Perth in January & Gandy seems an eternity away from her 2:05 leading I to London.

This is a sweet victory for Audrey Lacroix who was at the point of retirement because of chronic shoulder problems. She persevered and now has a gold medal for all of her efforts.

Nice to see Lacroix achieve success after a long career where she’s been on the fringe of the “top bracket” w/o ever being quite there.

Groves is young and at least gave it a crack. Gandy had a poor Olympics but swam good times domestically in AUS last year and started this season with some promise. Come trials and since; something’s gone amiss. Is it physical and in her headspace ? She’s still young enough to come back to intl competitiveness.
