Unusual not to see a Handshake or hug at all but Ruta completely blanked her, can’t blame her for that. On the BBC Mark Foster made the point about the supplements and that honest mistakes can happen although he also making the point that the athlete is responsible what he or she consumes. Thought Efimova looked rather sheepish and her celebration looked muted.

I must say, I tried to remain confident after her 100 br heats didnt look so hot. Very scratchy towards the end. A missed taper, or something to that effect can be the only real excuse besides illness.

Ruta has done it at the biggest of ocassions, with no major experience of an OG before then. Not to mention the WR. A plan gone wrong perhaps.

Disappointment on her face, its not hard to understand why. A doping ban played down to a speeding ticket, not a homocide as so many people feel.

Either way, a bitter pill to swallow much like James Guy. He, though, did bounce back to lift his first Major Title, perhaps the girl from Lithuania can do the same on the 50.

This WC is like a lucky dip packet at the moment

This does not enhance the reputation of Dave Salo either.

Meilutyte was 2 seconds slower than 2 years ago though, that must be her first concern. She can’t control what her opponents may or may not doing.

The swimmers in the next race probably had to break the ice formed in the centre lanes at the end of that 100 b/r.

I’m still hopeful that Ruta can fix whatever went wrong for Rio next year.

Personal Best

rfrize… didn’t expect to get a laugh from a comment on this article!

It was an interesting all round reaction at the end.

And interesting too the noise people are making now when it comes to those suspended for doping. A lot of questions it seems from media and competitors. Interesting times.

I hope she Ruta can bounce back… my breaststroke fave since Leisel Jones’ retirement. She seemed to be able to do it all (in the shorter races).

I agree with all the sentiments above. I hope Ruta can bounce back and at least prevent the Efimova sweep all three distances.
