The 400IM is one of the toughest races in Olympic swimming requiring an enormous amount of training to perform well. Belmonte needs to convert her short course ordinances at worlds to LCm, a sub 4.30 almost guarantees a podium place, history dictates winners of 400m events and beyond have mostly been teenagers, Belmonte is already on the wrong side of 20. it is almost inconceivable for anyone to beat Ledecky in the 400/800 free (for now), Belmontes best chance for gold probably the 200fly

i think belmonte can swim under 4.30 easily , she has 4.19 in sc and her work on the wall is good but not wonderfull , she has a chance to win gold in 400 im but i agree with you …200 fly is her better option, she is a potential 2.02-2.03 and if she is focused in this race she will be olimpic champion.

Belmonte’s best chances to win an Olimpic gold is 400IM and 200 fly. I bet she can swim under 4:30, even under 4:29. And at 200 fly event, she is the favourite to win it because she is 2:02. Besides, i am really optimistic and I think she can break Zige Liu world record.

Belmonte is insanity… just thinking about her events giving me muscle aches already.

I was among those who doubted she could win anything in 2012 London if she didn’t edit her her crazy events, but she proved me wrong by winning two silvers.

Now, if only she swims only two events (200 fly and 400 IM) in Rio as some have advised her here, I think she could win gold in either or even both.

400IM will be on day1 at the Olympics so sub 4.30 will be possible, however, that may hurt her chances of gold in other events later in the meet. Right now, Hosszu, Miley, Biesel and Ye ofcourse have 4.29 potential. it’ll be a tough race to final, let alone win.. ..
