Stability of process in mind, Great Britain today named its staff for the Olympic Games swimming and marathon teams for Rio 2016 next year. Head coach Bill Furniss will be backed by the mentors in charge of all of Britain’s main medal contenders: David McNulty, Jolyon Fink, Melanie Marshall, Ben Higson, James Gibson, Russ Barber in the pool and for the marathon squad Kevin Renshaw and Laurel Bailey

That’s weird. What if a named coach has none of their swimmers makes the cut. Or what if a coach not named has three swimmers who make the cut?

aswimfan: the BOA has final say on team names, athletes and staff. There is scope in the policy to change names, so if something dramatic happened that required a change to be made, that change could be made. Meanwhile, I think it highly unlikely that just about all those named will not have a key medal hope an the team come the end of the trials process.
