Eugene

Sasha Touretski doesn’t sound like authentic Swiss name as well 🙂

Craig Lord

I believe mum and dad are Russian parents of an Aussie, Eugene 🙂

Kim Simonsen

Is she related to Gennadi Touretski, Alexander Popovs former coach, didn’t he move to Switzerland?

aswimfan

Sasha Touretski is the daughter of Gennady.

IIRC, she was born in Australia, so she must have also Australian passport (as well as Russian, but not sure if Russia acknowledge dual/multiple nationalities).

Both Yannick Kaser and Nico van Duijn have U.S. ties in that both have swum for NCAADivision 1 schools.

You gotta figure Sasha realized early on she was not going to make it to The Bug Dance swimming for Australia so…Switzerland became a convenient second-choice.

Nothing wrong w/that. That backstroker for Penn state, Shane Ryan, has Irish ties and is over in Dublin training now w/aim of getting Irish citizenship in time for Rio. Wonder if we could convince oh, I don’t know, maybe Morozov/Cielo/Hosszu/Jakabos/Dan Wallace and even that “Serbian” backstroker that w/their strong ties to Uncle Sam they could easily qualify for USA citizenship by this time next year and we wouldn’t even require them to swim at our Olympic Trials to make our team.

And I am sure Adam Peaty’s parents have probably set foot in the USA at some time or another so that makes him eligible for U.S. Team too.

Hmmm…wonder if Yang Sun and Yi Shiwen have ever been to Disneyland?

Craig Lord

Adam Peaty’s parents’ of parents of, etc, gave rise to the USA, Bruinbil – but the latest in the Peaty line will be doing it tough and trying to qualify for the old country on breaststroke, where the competition is stiffer 🙂

Sasha Touretski was named Alexandra at birth after Alexander (Popov) in Canberra – the Siberia of Australia her mother Inna jokingly called the place!
Sasha is commonly used among friends for both names in Russian. Her mother Inna represented the Soviet Union in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the 50m freestyle (the first over this distance in Olympic history for women). Her father was Russian champion over 1500m in his younger days so I guess Sasha takes more after her mother 😉
