Will be interesting to see the actual dollars attached to the deal. I note one article mentioned the previous 10 million package which is not controlled by Swimming Australia and is paid directly to the swimmers. Previous funding for development has been redirected through this route. How much will be received by the State bodies for their development programs? If current arrangements are anything to go by it will be little. It is good to get a sponsor in the tough market but it still irks that we lost a valuable corporate sponsor and the Board still refuses to revisit the investigation that led to that loss.

How on earth did Australia Swimming lose Telstra?

Lawrie Cox

Swimming Australia didn’t lose Telstra they decided on change of strategy to focus on grassroots rather than the elite team. SAL then operated for two years with no principal sponsor until the then CEO delivered a sponsor in what i would say was also very difficult times to a value of 8 million applied across the sport. This was lost by the poor reflections of team behaviour in London and the final straw was the alleged behaviour of the then President. It is the last issue which has been ignored totally by the Board and needs to be addressed fully and completely to have any credibility going forward. As it is an embarrassment to the top table it is being avoided at all costs and the sport will continue to suffer for it.

Ah thanks for the explanation.
