I get chills reading the stories and remembering back. So so great!

Matthew

Biondi first went under 49 I think in 1985, not 1988.

curious

give some credit to Bud McAllister for coaching Janet to these Golds…..you talk about Quick and Schubert but she went faster with Bud! Great memories

Lane Four

You are absolutely correct, Curious. Good catch!

Lane Four

You are correct, Matthew. Biondi went under 49 at the 1985 Long Course National Championships in Mission Viejo. He actually broke two world records that day. He first broke Rowdy Gaines’ world record in prelims and then went under 49 for finals and another world record.

4 years later, Nicole Haislett used the same Armstrong’s strategy with the same successful result.

Curious. Not sure what you mean… The credit was given straight up (perhaps you missed it): On day 1 in Seoul, coach Bud McAllister’s charge won the first of three gold medals – in 4:37.74 in the long medley. and… she was a coaching dream-come-true for McAllister: she trained hard, never complained and focused on improving, the coach would say.

I have always wanted to see Kristin Otto’s 100m back Gold Medal swim. Does anyone have that swim on video? If so, please post it on youtube.

Lane Four

I believe it is already there. I have watched it a few times before.

I am just putting this out there…but does anyone know where I can find the women’s 400 I.M. from the 1980 Moscow Olympics????? This is one race I dearly want to see as well as Roland Matthes’ 200 backstroke from the 1973 World Championships.
