Racing in the same London lane 4 in which she claimed Olympic gold in 2012, Ruta Meilutyte took 1min 06.17 to claim the one crown that was missing from her impressive treasury over 100m breaststroke. It was a tight finish and a tight race as a result, the silver to Hilde Luthersdottir in an Icelandic record of 1:06.45, the bronze to Britain’s Chloe Tutton in 1:07.50.

I’ve seen enough. Tutton will medal in Rio (in the 200, that is).

Very happy for Rute to win, she’s still the girl to beat (and she’s frickin’ gorgeous to boot! must be a Lithuanian thing, they all seem to be incredibly pretty).

What a great storey the womens 100 breastroke is all 3 fastest clean swimmers this year are all under 20 years of age…..may we see many great battles in the pool from these young guns in future years

History is not on Ruta’s side.
There has never been a repeat Olympics women 100 breast gold medallist.

But there’s always a first, although -pending US trials results- my current prediction is that she won’t repeat.

Felix, medal in the 200 at this meet … very possibly. In Rio …..she’ll still have to drop 2-3secs to medal. Final …… I’d like to think so but medal would be a long shot

Felix Sanchez

I understand, but I’m calling Rio (a medal in the 200 here would hardly be an ambitious call when she’s just medalled in her weaker event). Showing the classic signs of a young swimmer on an Olympic year tear.

I like your surprise prediction for w200 breast.

There’s always a few of those in the Olympics.
