Marrit Steenbergen clocked 29.44 to win the 50m freestyle.

That’s kinda slow don’t you think?

ASW, that was the 50back time. As the results page is in Dutch; the following may assist in identifying the various strokes:

– vrijeslag – freestyle
– rugslag – backstroke
– schoolslag – breaststroke
– vlinderslag – butterfly
-wisselslag – medley

Women’s 50m Free will inevitably be fireworks. Final predictions, Craig / CW?

Any one of Cate, Bronte, Sjostrom, Kromowidjojo, Halsall, Manuel not making the final would be a surprise. I do Halsall can regain her form of 2014 – 23.96 shared world textile best with C1? I’m sceptical, however.

hope Halsall*

Too early in the year to have any real handle on who’s going fast and who’s having an “off” year. C2 has had hip niggles; as yet its not fully clear if this will have significant impacts.

The 50 looks to have a wider field of contenders than the 100. Going off 2014/2015, my list of contenders would be (in no particular order): Sjostrom, C1, C2, Kromowidjojo & Halsall.

Manuel may make the final but she’s the bes t part of half a second behind the “quality” and has yet to prove herself anything more than a SC performer. I would rank Vanderpool- Wallace ahead of her …. but maybe a couple of tenths shy of the medals.

Re Halsall, whilst her 2015 was somewhat off her best; her 2014 performances are still recent enough to have some relevance. I’m certainly not writing her off.
