I am sorry Craig for not related to the topic post. But can someone explain why we saying World Championship in Kazan, Russia. Is it an official terminology proposed by FINA. Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan – well developed nation that have long and great history with the significant cultural and scientific achievements. Tatarstan is a part of Federation and is not Russia. Is it just how Western cultures see the territory of former Soviet Union?

Ron also was a triple Commonwealth games champion at Edmonton 1978 in the 200m 400m and 4x200m.

Thanks Yozhik: in media the shortest version of all things wins when describing titles and locations etc, city, region, nation is not going to make the wrap in most publications, I would imagine. But thanks for the reminder, I will be careful with my geography and nuance 🙂 … Tatarstan has no nation status in sport, I guess that is the other factor. FINA’s official bid status is with Russia and the Russian swim federation as the host member.
