Ger

I’ve always wondered if the bell ringers in distance races dropped a bell in the water what the ruling would be if a swimmer was impeded, or injured. Well it almost just happened, but no damage done.

aswimfan

yeah, I saw that in slow motion.
I guess they bought very cheap one

Nicole Livingstone said Boyle was sick. So unfortunate. Can you imagine, training for four years, and then fell sick during the meet you trained for?

aswimfan

James Guy swimming 51.78 in the prelims… GBR will strongly contend for 4×100 medley silver.

commonwombat

The medallists in the W800 will come from the final heat. Smith’s finishing burst was telling, the one issue is whether she’ll be coming from too far back. Ashwood will find herself in the same trap as the 400; an outside lane and her pace guides around her may well be off the pace.

aswimfan

And if CWH swims out of his skin, it’s not out of question that GBR will challenge USA for medley relay gold.

Ger

If CWH is within a second of Murphy, Peaty will cause chaos and who knows ASF.

aswimfan

Schooling glided to 51.41
I’ll say he’s dangerous (in the same tone I said Chalmers and Rylov were dangerous)

Eugene Chc

Better for Missy scratch 200 back and go home.

aswimfan

Any question if Hosszu can win 200 back is promptly quashed with that 2:06.09

MIssy…… 🙁
I said two days ago she might as well forget about defending her title.. let me revise it.. she might as well forget about medaling.

aswimfan

I’m 100% sure that no one.. not a single person…would have predicted just a month and a half ago that Missy wouldn’t be on podium AT ALL this olympics.

This is shocking.

Ger

Missy’s form is a mystery. Where does she go from here? Maybe her back issues have caused an as yet undiagnosed problem. She has no power.

commonwombat

100% concur re W100back; there’s not likely to be anyone in the same post code as Hosszu. Re Franklin, Seebohm looks to have booked passage on the same boat …. if she serves up such tripe in the semis then she can reserve her spot in the bleachers for the final.

Schooling certainly firming for a medal in the M100fly. Tending to concur that GBR is firming in the market for M4XMED

Blah Blah

Actually asf, I don’t think that was a surprise prediction at all. I was personally surprised she even qualified for the olympics in more than the 200 back.

aswimfan

Let’s think about this fact:
Between Missy and Seebohm they own 11 world championships and olympics backstroke medals in since 2011!

It will be shocking if none of these two swimmers win a single backstroke medal this olympics.

the adage that “past performances means zilch at Olympics” is really personified by Missy+Seebohm.

Bad Anon

Kirsty Coventry qualified in 9th (2.08.91) faster than both Franklin and Seebohm and she turns 33 in 4 weeks time… Kirsty is in a good place… Was great to see her awarding medals for women’s 200fly victory ceremony and next day she’s competing… Whatever happens in the semi’s Kirsty has been such a quality human being; great ambassador of the sport and one of the finest athletes to hail from the African continent… Well done Kirsty Coventry and wishing her the best to the future including her important role on the IOC athletes commission as a voice for athletes… (Kirsty has been a fierce critic of the FINA handling of doping and will continue as part of the WADA athletes commission)

Eugene Chc

Blah Blah,
yes, I predicted she qualify only in 4*200 relay.
she did better in trial, and much worse in OG

Ger

Craig, can you shed any light on Missy’s situation; why she is struggling?

Ger

Kenyan coaches eh?

Here’s my theory on McEvoy’s missing performance (aside from the reported illness):

He doesn’t swim enough in this Olympics.

Yes, I’m not joking.
This is the first time since 2012 that he doesn’t swim individual 200 free and 4×200 before his 100 free.

His 48.1 in the final is slower than every single 100 free final he has swum since 2012, nationa or international. Either he is really ill, or he has not swum enough or both.
