Fratus doing a 21.91 right now! That s a best in season time for him, ever.I will not be surprised seeing him in 21.2 range. Auburn training is doing wonders for him.

DDias. My sentiments exactly (see my post on swiminfo.com).

And what about Farida Osman’s MiddleEastern/Egyptian record in the women’s 50 (24.92)?

Now there’s a surprise and undoubtedly a muy pleasant one for Cal coach Terri Mc. Osman does that @ Kazan and she’ll be Top 8 (maybe). And if she can get in the 21-mud range for the 50 yard free @ NCAAs she could be a big scorer there too.

As I have noted before Cal’s women’s team has a real international flavor. Osman (Egypt), flyer Noemi Thomas (Canada), Marina Garcia Urzainqui (La Espana), a backstroker from Hong Kong — must make for some very interesting conversations around the training table.

Bill Bell,
considering Farida is nineteen, we can see probably a lot of improve.I think it s too early to tell if she is gonna be finalist in Kazan, but semifinalist is a good bet, right now.

About Fratus: He is only six-one(186cm) tall.Very short for a top sprinter, but is still improving.I can not understand how many american top high school sprinters dont choose Auburn as main goal for training.Hawke now made near “half” of top brazilian sprinters(Cielo,Chieriguini and Fratus).Even 34year-old Nicholas Dos Santos is traning with Brett. It will be funny if Brazil 4x100free relay overtake USA team in Kazan with 3/4 of relay prepared by Auburn.

Bill Bell

It won’t be funny.

It’ll call for a Congressional investigation!

That’s totally Un-American.

Like having — oh I don’t know — maybe some a Chinese guy not only win the Olympic gold in the 1500 free but set the world-record too.

Merciful heavens!

BTW: think that young Brazilian sprinter who set the 18-underv” world record” in the 100 free last year can make the Brazilian sprint relay team for Rio and perhaps go to Auburn himself at some future date?

Bet Brett has his eye on him already plus that 16-year-old kid from Phoenix who tore up juniors. USA has any number if promising young boys starting to make an impact, not the least of whom is current a Florida freshman Caeleb Dressel. And Ryan Murphy is only a sophomore at Cal.

I agree with DDias that 24.92 won’t put Osman in Kazan final, unless she improves that to 24.7 because I think that what it will take.
Remember that C1, C2, Halsall, Kromo, Heemskerk, Arianna VPW, Sjoestrom, Manuel should be able to fire off 24mid in the semis.

Dee

24.9 will never final in Kazan. Including the two per-nation rule there were 17 women 24.81 or faster in 2014.

24.6 for a final spot.

beachmouse

Wikipedia had the unofficial African record in the women’s 50M free LC as 25.24 from Liz-Marie Retief (SA) in 2008. (CANA’s web site has the records section blank)

Craig Lord

beachmouse – that 25.24 was indeed the African record at S African nationals in 2008; textile best had been a 25.35, Trudi Maree (RSA), with
a 25.61 Osman’s best from 2013 (she didn’t break 26 last year, so big progress).

Osman is also slightly faster than C2 this weekend. It’s going to be interesting to see how she progresses.

Bill Bell,
16year-old…Are you talking about Hoffer?

About Matheus Santana(Jr.Record Holder):
He is gonna stay in Brazil, but i think would be a good thing for him training with Hawke to improve his (weak) start. And by the way, all Santana 100free brazilian records are getting beaten by his younger training partner(16years-old) Felipe Ribeiro, already 49.93 in 100free.Let see how he is gonna improve.

Dressel, no one needs to talk about it, but Murphy?I thought he was more backstroker wonder than freestyler.
