March 11 – an unforgettable day for the Japanese nation. A time for quiet contemplation but also one to breathe new life back into communities striving to motivate the next generation to take part in a healing process. Back in 2011, it was the day the port town of Ishinomaki was shaken to its roots by an earthquake and tsunami that claimed many lives and devastated whole communities. Now the Olympic spirit, itself shaken in recent years by the very guardians of the Games at times, is helping to put people and communities back on their feet.
