If the GOAT does swim in La Belle France in mid-August he’ll likely have just finished competing @ US Nationals in San Antonio the week before so presumably he’ll still be in peak form.

It will also mark his inaugural World Cup appearance all-time if memory serves.

On another topic…a certain Mr. Robert Renwick, 27, representing uofSus ( University of Sussex?) won the consol finals of the 200 yard free at the au.S. Nationals in Greensboro, last month in a respectable 1:34.17 — likely the first time he’s ever swam in a 25 yard pool. I didn’t see his name in any other event so why would he cross the pond to swim in just one race?

Is he training here in the “Colonies”– perhaps @ SwimMAC along w/Mesrs. Lochte/Park among others?

And…going 5K in a 25-meter pool — 200 laps — defies credulity.

That’s akin to what USA’s Mike Bruner did while training for Montreal a few moons ago — 20K fly lcm in under an hour.

Well…he won the 200 fly gold @ Montreal and broke Roger Pyttel’s “world record” (done while training on “Khrushchev Kandy”) w/his 1:59.23 — .04 slower than John Naber’s 200 back world record — a fact Naber of USC never tired of reminding his Stanford friend.

Bill, Michael has raced world cup rounds before – Berlin 2009, for example: finished 5th in the 200 fly in 1:52.26 wearing briefs in a pool full of shiny suits.

If Bruner did 20K fly Lcm in under an hour it’s no surprise he won gold in Montreal! Or was he actually flying?

Bill,

Robbie now trains with University of Stirling(Scotland) and attended the US Open with a small group of Scottish athletes as part of a technical development exercise…

He also swam the 100yds Free, and T/T’d in the 50yds.

Broke Scottish record a few days later in the 100Fr SC on his return I think too 47.96!?
