Martina Carraro saved her best – and Italy’s – until the last with a 1:06.41 Italian record over 100m breaststroke in the final session of the Italian Championships in Riccione this afternoon. The curtain-closer also witnessed a whistling last lap from Gabriele Detti that granted him 200m freestyle gold and a third crown ahead of Luca Dotto, another in line for the treble but denied it by 0.02sec.

Italy is almost guaranteed to win men 4×200 berth in Rio. They were 13th in Kazan and I can’t see four non automatically qualified countries better Italy’s time from Kazan orthis year, whichever faster. So hopefully Magnini will join his girlfriend for that special 4 Olympics status.

Italy is third now. Brazil has a 7:11 from pan am and China went 7:13 but unless we see some drops from Canada Switzerland Austria. Etc Italy will be safe.

Since when Dotto swims the 200??

yup can’t think any other countries who already won automatic quallification plus Brazil and china, which can beat Italy’s time of 7:13.77
