Caeleb Dressel landed the first of his three golden shots this day on target and beyond: gold, in 21.15, a world textile record 0.04sec inside the fury of 2012 Olympic champion Florent Manaudou, up in the stands for French TV, his doubt depending, perhaps, that he will ever make it make to the blocks in the pool after hanging up his goggles in the wake of Rio 2016 silver. Dressel was the kid in the wash two years ago who just sneaked into the all-time top 10 in textile. Now he leads it.
