This event is suddenly a lot faster than in the past few years. We may see 3 swimmers under 51 if all perform well. Phelps will have to be near his textile best for gold next year in Rio, a difficult task.

It certainly puts a different perspective on Phelps’ chances. The event has been so disappointing recently, but he’s got to be a bit startled by Cseh’s times.

Although I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Phelps won Rio gold well short of his best textile time. This Cseh form could disappear as quickly as it has arisen, and too many people have been predicting sub-51s from the other guys for too long.

Maybe not!
