Ledecky The Sub-4min Textile Pioneer Of 400 Free

Katie Ledecky [Aniko Kovacs]

In the short time Katie Ledecky has been in the international spotlight, she has left no doubt about her tactics. The teenager is a viper, taking her fangs to the competition from the start and letting the venom which is her talent take the life of the opposition. That attacking style was one display again at the World Championships, as the American and star of global distance swimming collected her first gold medal at the World Champs with a history-making swim.

Told you guys!

What an impressive performance! I was expecting a victory, but in 4’00 or 4’01…
Under 4 minutes is just incredible! Even with her best level, Muffat would have been in Ledecky feet at the end…
But that was assuming that Muffat was at her best! 4’07!!! She totally missed the final, and definitely because of psychological issues (maybe after her trainer’s declaration about Agnel yesterday). She is in very good shape, perfect physical condition, and after a 4’05 in heats, 4’07 in final and 7th place…

I hope she’ll come back showing us her true value for the 200 free!

Fantastic swim from Ledecky, still in High School and only the second woman under 4 mins. It was an inspirational swim and heartening to see that another shiny suit record is under threat.

Lennart van Haaften

Amazing swim, can’t wait for the 1500 and 800. She could very well become the star of the meet, especially if she breaks 1 or 2 WRs. Sun seems to be just off last year’s level (understandably) and I’m still undecided on whether Franklin can threaten the 100/200 back WRs. Hagino could win a lot of medals for sure, but multiple golds will be difficult.

For me it seemed that Muffat didn’t even try. It didn’t look at the same at all. Her problems are definitely pshychological.

I’m in shock but I must admit that Ledecky’s performance was well beyond my expectations. Hats off to Katie for it. She is capable of breaking the Pellegrini’s record in the coming years.

I’m happy with Costa’s silver.

Lennart van Haaften

Yes nice to see Costa do well. I was surprised to see how few medals Spanish women have won at worlds so far, this was only the second.

I’m thinking Ledecky could split a 4:03/:4:06 and get under 8:10 in that 800m. That would be amazing!

The women’s 4 X 100 free Gold Medal and Ledecky’s gold in 400 free — WOW! Ladies, you done GOOD!

The only other race I really got excited about was Kevin Cordes in the semi’s of the 100 breast stroke — he looked GREAT! And he’s like 19 years old!?!?

Folks, I think the TEAM USA is going to do very well!

KeithM

I agree with SwimFinlandFan, Muffat seemed to throw in the towel at about the half way point. Still impressive from Ledecky. Muffat at her best would have had difficulty trying to match that swim.

Justin, I wouldn’t be surprised if Katie DOES have a sub-8:10 in mind. Right now I figure just let her do her thing because she does it better than anyone else.

aswimfan

Here’s what I figure Ledecky would swim her 800:

4:03-4:09 (or 4:04-4:08) for 8:12 or 8:13
