Almost the top 8 under 54 seconds. Going to be a sizzler to make the final tonight.

I know who I wont be shouting for during the swim off..

W100FS heats basically ran according to script. C1, Sjostrom, C2 – oh so easy. Heemskerk – slightly harder to judge due to an earlier heat. Kromowidjojo looks good for making final. Manuel – a level below all those above.

DDias

Cate and Sarah looked “walking in the park”… we will see fireworks in final.

Can Irie win his first World title?

What will Murphy do on the 200 after that blistering 52.1

Wez

Irie looks great! So too does Murphy. Slow turn over, great turns..

Wez

Great splits from Mitch. 27.1 29.5 29.5 29.6. Even and he is top of the pile.

Did anyone else see the underwater shot of him? hardly kicking his legs??? Not too sure if thats how he swims, or if he was saving some for later.

commonwombat

M200BK looking very interesting. Is Irie on his best at these Champs ? Murphy looked good but he needs to back it up through the rounds. Larkin very good – he’s clearly learned his lesson regarding heats from 2013 Worlds. Beaver a pleasant surprise. Strong finish in Irie/Murphy heat from Rylov.

Wez

@commonwombat

I agree with you on Murphy, Larkin looks by far the best race wise.

Personal Best

That’s only about 0.5 from Larkin’s PB.
With his improvement in the 100, he might have a big drop in the 200 coming.

The rest look like the usual. The top are all fairly close to one another at the moment.

AUS W4X200 – Barratt, Ashwood, Neale, McKeon. (shudders) Barratt hasn’t swam well since London & Neale’s 400 was lamentable. Interesting that McKeon is swimming heats & Wright isn’t given Emma would be clearly the “higher seed”. Illness perhaps but I sure as hell hope this isn’t the team for the final !

aswimfan

Yuliya “GHC” Efimova next

Wez

@aswimfan, cocky down that first 50 meters….she should make it through though…

aswimfan

What was that from Efimova?

playing with the field knowing that she can always outswim everyone else even she’s 10 meter behind at 150?

Wez

8 would have to beat her for her not to make it… unlikely…

Wez

i stand corrected…

Wez

That was a very unnecessary mistake from Y.E.
The depth of the womens 200 breast much better than what it used to be.

aswimfan

Efimova defending champion OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Wez

A triple crown thrown away…

The last heat was so fast all 8 swimmers made it to semis

aswimfan

Wez, your jinxing ability is simply breathtaking…

commonwombat

What was going on with Efimova ? If she was trying to “play games” then she got double faced slapped. You can’t give 10m head start with 100m to go in any seeded heat. Second US swimmer Larson also missed finals.

McKeown actually swam well wall to wall but her turns were utterly abysmal requiring her to play catch up on each of the last 3 laps. Pleaded asthma flare-up post race.

Wez

@aswimfan, Its a gift 😛

aswimfan

I agree with you on mcKeown’s turn. She got passed by THREE swimmers on the turn. Just unacceptable.

commonwombat

Peaty clearly out of gas in M200BRS; perhaps some re-assessment of his schedule for the future may be in order although it must be granted that 50BRS & “novelty” races are not on Rio program.

W4x200FS: USA just needs to turn up & keep changes safe. Minor medals look essentially “a lucky dip”. If ITA is within sniffing distance of a medal going into the final leg then I would have to favour Pellegrini to get them home. Very underwhelming AUS outfit, clearly decimated by Elmslie/Palmer withdrawals; may well be walking away with nothing.

Oliver Kramer

I’m so glad that Efimova is out! Her interview on her doping suspension was more than unapologetic.
For men’s 200 breaststroke my money is on Marco, fortunately he’s pulled through his stomach problems.

aswimfan

Efimova’s swim today reminds me a bit of Soni’s 2009 Rome. Similar swim, the only difference is Soni died on her way back while Efimova died on her way out.

Both also swam for Dave Salo.

Personal Best

I don’t think Australia’s efforts this morning were that underwhelming.
That was a solid morning effort to be fair.

What may be underwhelming is that this may be the finals line up.
Ashwood as the distance specialist understandably had the slowest time, but that was a solid showing by Neale.

The US could drop up to 7 seconds from the inclusion of their two fastest, and then even more if they have any other substitutions, or just faster swims.

peter robinson

Big news in Australia. The Campbell sisters are to swim in the 4/200 relay. Time trials done last week.

Ger

Putting McLaughlin into the relay is a big gamble, so soon after the 200 butterfly. I can see no sense to it.
