US nominee for W50BK a no show. Seebohm solid enough as was Medeiros. Will be interesting to see if the two Chinese sustain this standard through the rounds.

Feigen (2nd US 100 swimmer) a 49.14 and missed semis. Me old mate Tommaso ….. as expected.

Pierre AGOGUE

I’m pleased to see that Stravius is not burned…His freestyle is good…He just has a problem with his 100 bk. Let’s see the back dash!

aswimfan

Serial tourist is scorching 49 lol.

They should have given the chance to Chalmers instead.

Verram

I’m shaking my head at D’Orsogna not breaking 49sec… Chalmers deserved that spot

Wez

Thiago P has the same rep at SMOC on the 200 IM. Great to 150!

Ryan was superb this am! 32.8 on that breast

Wez

The knee looks good! ๐Ÿ™‚

aswimfan

That was a masterclass by Lochte.

!:57 while shutting it down 15 metres before finish is just too much. too much.

commonwombat

Gentlemen please !!! In the interests of procedural fairness, please desist from singing “Hit The Road Jack” until after the 100fly heats. (ok to hum it though).

Most of the 100free names looked solid enough; tonight will tell us who’s the business and who’s not.

The US will be happy with both W200flyers through easily to semis. Impressive finish from Zhang in last heat. Expect Throssell to wash out in tonight’s semis. Groves …… I have my doubts.

Nice emphatic statement from Lochte in 200IM heats but can/will he sustain this throughout the rounds. Fraser-Holmes …… was Fraser-Holmes 2015 vintage. To those who were touting AUS M4x200; is your money still there or has the evidence presented so far at Kazan provided a reality check ?

aswimfan

commonwombat,

I’m an eternal optimist fool, and still hope that the Aussie freestylers turn it around and at least medal in 4×200 ๐Ÿ™‚
\
By the way, Australia is throwing away an easy mixed medley relay medal.

aswimfan

I watched Groves’ australian trials swim. she looked strong, smooth, kept her stroke finish. If Groves can recapture that form, she should medal. But who knows with the Aussie fickle

aswimfan

Lochte 52.18!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

crazy crazy crazy

Ger

Wow. Ryan Murpty 52.18

Anon

Why the hell isn’t australia submitted a mixed medley team? With Larkin Packard mckeon and Campbell you would expect them to be the favourites….

Pierre AGOGUE

Ryan Murphy 52″18 ???????????????????

Ger

Murphy even

aswimfan

Sorry I meant Murphy

Wez

Murphy was excellent

Ger

Murphy’s best before that swim 53.21

commonwombat

Totally disagree, Anon with regards to the mixed medley relays. IF there was sufficient depth (ie adequate second stringers to rest your guns for heats), then maybe but in the case of mens backstroke & womens fly they haven’t ……. and Larkin, McKeon & either Campbell have far more important races to come.

TBH, FINA showed it’s customary sagacity introducing these mixed events to LC Worlds the year before an Olympics when preparation & gauging relative strength in OLYMPIC EVENTS are the prime focus. This should have at least been held over until the Worlds the year after Rio.

aswimfan

I am of mixed opinion about this medley relay.

It’s kinda weird.

Wez

Does anyone know why Ryan Murphy’s swim wasnt Ratified as a CR? The current record was 52.19 by Piersol?

Please don’t tell me we are not allowing it because it was swum in a mixed relay!!!

What is the point of making an official race without allowing standout performances such as that to hold.

Pierre AGOGUE

With Cordes in 58″33 (mornong time) the US will be very dangerous in the men medley…with the GB’s. Let’s see what Adrian will do tonight!

Pierre AGOGUE

Agree with you ASF, there is no race, just team swimming in different lines at different speed! Nonsense. Is the order imposed on the freestyle mixed relay or is it the same mess?

Wez

Agree with Pierre! 52.1 by Murphy, a relay swim of 58.3 by Cordes, Tim or Tom, take your pick on fly, and Adrian on free.

Bill is keeping a low profile this championships… ๐Ÿ™‚

commonwombat

Pierre, they were unbackable favourites for the M WXMED and remain so. Why ?? All other touted contenders have at least one unsurmountable weakness.

Whilst they are most certainly capable of torpedoing their own chances (breaks; that’s probably the only way they won’t win.

The W MxMED; now that’s a completely different story ………

Anon

Commonwombat it doesn’t make sense when their funding is tied to gold medals – apart from women’s medley relay and Campbell’s in the sprints how many other chances will they get to add to the current 3?

ThereaLuigi

Does it bother just me that the fastest swimmer after the 100 free heats is someone who did Clenbuterol?

Very poor showing from Feigen, a 47 swimmer turned 49…

A magnificent Lochte in the 200 im.

commonwombat

Not too sure how they’d classify these given their non-Olympic status. One would think those events would carry higher weighting and given that they already put less selection weighting on the non-Olympic 50’s; they would have clarified this with the Sports Commission.

Craig Lord

No, roy, they think that if the big nations put less emphasis on circus events, some new nations might show up on the podium and they can rush off to the IOC and ask for more money – IAAF boasts a lot about how many nations make its world champs podium – a lot more than in swimming, for example. All part of the politics of more is more โ€ฆ hence the wash of development nations in the heats. Of course, the strategy won’t wash – very transparent, unlike much else FINA gets up to

gheko

Sadly FINA do not recognise individual swims in mixed relays so his 52.18 will not count.

gheko

Remember Libby Lenton went a WR 52.99 in a mixed relay, It was not officially recognised.

Craig Lord

It’ll count on the all-time rankings, gheko ๐Ÿ™‚ – he did it, in official competition. It goes down in the group of swims like Libby Lenton’s 52.99 in 2007. The rest is academic – the 52.18 doesn’t set any records

Felix Sanchez

Murphy will surely get the final now. And probably a go at the men’s medley relay if that goes well.

aswimfan

Craig,

Murphy’s 52.18 broke CR 52.19 by Peirsol in 2009.

I wonder if FINA is going to recognise it.

aswimfan

ThereaLuigi,

I am sure there was some perfectly acceptable reasons why Ning Zetao did clenbuterol.

Maybe he had some genetic organ condition or something that critically required injection of clenbuterol for 10 years….

Craig Lord

Oh, yesโ€ฆ .. and no, they won’t, aswimfan โ€ฆ not on the official result sheetโ€ฆ because .. the rules are are clear on men and women and the solo separation. Rule SW10.10 also disallows records to be recognised in mixed relays in recognition of the rule on solo swims.

felix

Yes Chalmers would be in semis, unfortunately Ol mate got the spot. Murphy wins 200.

ThereaLuigi

Thank you Aswimfan, now I am much relieved and can look with renewed trust to this competition ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Ger

He thought it was clean butter oil; very high in vitamins.

aswimfan

Ger,

why yes, that is very plausible. Maybe the words “clenbuterol” and “clean butter oil” are written very similarly in mandarin script… After all, Ning Zetao may have hard time reading and understanding english ..

ThereaLuigi

Actually, Aswimfan, they are very similar in English, which I think was the point of Ger’s joke ๐Ÿ™‚

aswimfan

ThereaLuigi,

I got the joke, so sad you didn’t get mine ๐Ÿ™
๐Ÿ™‚

Roy,

It’s a good thing Australia doesn’t have death penalty for drug smugglers, otherwise Yuan Yuan the swimmer whould have been shot dead in 1998.

aswimfan

Roy,

maybe it’s in a bad taste, but I find it ironically funny that the case you mentioned above does confirm two stereotypes about the two countries: drug+colombia and death penalty+china

aswimfan

Indonesia also have very strict death penalty for drug smugglers. It doesn’t prevent Indonesian swimmers from doping though:
http://www.swimvortex.com/methylhexaneamine-claims-another-two-for-doping-case-list/

ThereaLuigi

Aswimfan, sorry for not getting the joke. Some days I am less brilliant than others ๐Ÿ™‚

aswimfan

Jacco Verhaeren is being interviewed by eurosport and he said mixed medley relay is unnecessary ๐Ÿ™‚

Wez

Vlad the Impaled…

aswimfan

And I had McEvoy and Morozov as co-favorites….
The Russian crowd are in shock

aswimfan

McEvoy is still looking like a teenage boy, looking younger and definitely smaller than Chalmers or Michael Andrew..

aswimfan

I was hoping Morozov to swim next to mcEvoy so mcEvoy can use him as rabbit

aswimfan

Fu Yuanhui is SUCH a 50 specialist

Ger

That was a great race, Cseh just hanging on.
