“Some of the predictions (fantasies?) were absurd, suggestions she’d challenge the eight-minute barrier in the 800 freestyle out of touch with reality.”

That, of course, would be me πŸ™‚ Reality never did hold much temptation.

I’ll modify my previous fantasy and predict 8:02.9.

If Ledecky wins 200 and 800, she becomes, in my opinion, the greatest female freestyler of all time.

Even if Ledecky quit swimming tonight, she’s by far already the greatest freestyler ever….

She’s just so great to watch. You always get your money’s worth and more. Such an amazing career, and only 19.

This swim for me was pure Gold. First time the Olympics has been won under 4 minutes. So glad for Jazz, she has always been there and thereabouts, but she finally has put her hand up to be counted.

I think that it sets her up for a great 800 free. Dont be surprised if she swims close to 8:14 or quicker.

Ledecky’s 200 freestyle is going to be a class apart. I cant see her being beaten by anyone.

The very big difference between here and trials for KL was the use of her legs upfront. At trials she sprinted and really drove those legs abit too hard. (great for her 200). The 800 i feel is going to be around 8:03.

At the last WC, KL swam only 3x31sec laps during her 800, and was even split (403, 404) I think we will see 4:00 4:02.

Has the second 400 of any 800 been quicker than the 2nd place on 400 free at the olympics? It may be this year πŸ™‚
