I am ashamed and appalled, both for Brazil (my country) in particular and for FINA and the (clean) swimming community in general: in my opinion, the relays should have been cancelled!

Appalled, too, Cayley – the whole point of the relay rule is to serve as a deterrent to those who run the risk of bringing down their teammates and national teams … the lack of commitment to calling it as the rules empower those taking decisions that speak to the fight against doping – not only 1 case at a time but for the good of clean sport in general – is woeful. It often seems like they feel it might have been unjust to deny those who didn’t cheat (so lets be nice to folk) – but that’s what the rule is there for and ought to be either got rid of or enforced.
Cayley, you needn’t be ashamed – none of us can be responsible for whole nations and the rogues and poor choices therein, even when the nation is our place of birth and we love her.

Craig, I suspect you have seen this, but just in case:

Thanks Steve… good for George – more senior swimmers should start to stand up and speak in support of their rights and call on their federations to insist FINA reforms or falls … and more on that soon … meanwhile:

I’ve lost all faith in FINA after this.
It will be interesting to watch the outcome of the Park Tae-Hwan case.
Craig, I always enjoys the insight of your articles. Keep up the good work.
Keep the pressure on FINA too, however I believe the dollars they are receiving both above and below the table will result in more dubious decisions by them in coming years.
Have a lovely weekend.
