It has been awhile that the m400 free gold is contested by more than 2 swimmers as it will be in Kazan. The last time was in 2007, and the one before that was in 1996.

If Sun Yang is on form, this is still going to be no contest. The smart money is still on him this year and Rio.

Fast swim for Guy , I could see him dipping down to a 3:42 come Kazan time but I think Horton could be a 3:41 with Yang being right there around the same mark. I can’t see the podium with any other swimmers at this point , although Mckeon could be there as well..

McKeon will not be on the podium. Those 3 names all swim the 400 far better & are technically superior.
