Time for the dividends to roll in after all those competitive marathons around the world: Katinka Hosszu (HUN), arguably the most raced swimmer in the history of the sport (the sums are nearly there…) crushed her opponents in the 200m medley final with a 2:07.92 European-record victory; Alicia Coutts (AUS) takes second silver of the day for a fine lap back from disappointment, the bronze to Spain’s Mireia Belmonte for the loudest cheer of the day

Second medal for Spain. Melanie Costa-Schmid’s silver in the 400m free was the first.

Shocking performance by Ye. Not that 2:10 is slow by any stretch, but to be 3 secs shy of her time from last year, so far off the pace, was eye-opening. Story of the final, with all due respect to Hosszu. Enough for me to think, as I watched, that she had to have a problem of some kind… she couldn’t be THAT far back could she??

Hope she rebounds in 400. As with Vollmer, their best form would’ve relegated today’s winners to silver :I

Mireia has a big problem with the backstroke , she improved anything but today she was 1.9 slower than hosszu in this style, and more than a second with the rest of the swimmers. In this way it’s imposible win the gold, but if she is able to improve a little more and swim backstroke on 33.00 (hosszyu swam on 32.1), she can win hosszu the next time becouse she has a great breastroke and a stunning frestyle.
