Franklin’s Barcelona Slate A Better Fit Than London

Now that Missy Franklin has completed her schedule at the United States National Championships, we can start looking ahead to what the Missile will be able to do at the World Championships next month in Barcelona. If history is any indication, Franklin will be even better than she was at Nationals. After all, the teenager has always flourished on the international stage.

Franklin will do extremely well in Barcelona in the freestyle events too… She’l win up to 5 individual medals.. She’s a lock for gold 100-2m0back

Franklin will do extremely well in Barcelona in the freestyle events too… She’l win up to 5 individual medals.. She’s a lock for gold in 100 and 200back. I’m predicting 53.10 100free silver, 58.11 100back gold(WR), 2.04.60- 200back, and 1.54.80 200free gold

Yes, Franklin’s schedule is extremely ideal.
I wonder if FINA designed the schedule with Franklin (and other multi eventers like Lochte because Lochte’s events are also nicely spread out) in mind.

Franklin will get a medal in the 200 free for sure. 100 free is a bit more difficult, it’s the most competitive event in women’s side – by far. Campbell and Kromowidjojo are capable of sub-53 (along with Sjoestrom). And then you have Herasimenia and Tang Yi who last year swam faster than Missy’s trialls swim.

100/200 back is a lock for golds.

Thanks for listing Missy’s schedule for us … I was wondering how all her events would play out in Barcelona. With those rest days intersperced, too, this bodes well for the Missile. She’ll bring home lots of hardware.

Hhmm, I’m perhaps somewhat more cautious than some pundits above who are declaring “locks” left right and centre. If any event IS a lock for Franklin, then it’s the 200 back where she has to be the overwhelming favourite. I DO NOT have her as a “lock” for the 100 back; certainly a betting favourite but the likes of Seebohm, Terakawa & perhaps Pelton are a helluva lot closer to her than the 200 back field and cannot be disrespected. A definite medal shot in the 200 free (perhaps a legitimate shot at major coin) but she’s far more of an outsider over 100. She’s likely to fly out of Barcelona with 6 medals (maybe some chance of 7) but I can only mark down 2 fairly sure bets for Gold – the 200 back & W/MED. Excellent chance of 3 with the 100 back & plausible 4th in 200 free. That’s that for gold. She’s “medal mix” for 100 free but neither free relays look on gold pace (especially the 4X200) – medals yes but not the big one
