Why on earth would Manaudou want to focus on building his efforts in the 50m back when it is not an Olympic event? I wonder if he’ll give the 100m back a go? He is an extremely talented swimmer.

I think Manaudou wants to break the World Record in the 50m back. He currently doesn’t have any LC WRs in his name, and I think the 50m back given his performance in Doha is the one most within his reach.

Also it’s clear that he’s not completely binning training for the 100m and other events – he will definitely be swimming the relay for France and it is clear his long-term plan for Rio is to include the 100m Fr.

In fact, though I do think he needs to work on his energy levels a bit more (see how he dipped in Doha in the individual 100 Fr) focusing on his backstroke may help him improve in other ways. For one, backstroke can be good for loosening the shoulder up – an issue which for someone like Manaudou and especially with his stroke could be and has been an issue – and trains his balance in different ways. This could be a surprisingly good call, and I’d rather he work on backstroke than breaststroke for example.

Cannot wait to see how the French attack the 4×100 Fr relay in Kazan. They can choose from Manaudou, Gilot, Stravius, Metella, Mignon and Agnel. That’s an incredible team right there.

I think this is a very smart move by the French team and Barnier.

He seem to be taking the same approach Cielo made, focusin on 50 and pushing the 100 for relay purpose… It will be good to see the 2 clash on Kazan.. and the relays clash..

Also, I would like to see the 50 back WR go down.. and he may do it if he is fresh..

If Manaudou’s goal for 2015 is the 50 back worldrecord he can be pushed in that way at home with two big challengers both on the podium at the last world championship : Lacourt and Stravius. I believe that if ever Lacourt has a good year he is able too to challenge the world record.

I think there is a difference in strategy between Manadou and Cielo.

It seems Manadou will still shoot for 100 free gold (in addition to 50 free) in Rio, while for Cielo it seems he is focusing on 50 free only and 100 free for relay.
