Femke Heemskerk Takes 52.79 Maiden Voyage Under 53 In 100 Free At SwimCup Eindhoven

Femke Heemskerk takes her first major global solo crown in December 2014 - by Patrick B. Kraemer

As Australians get set to fight for 4x200m berths at nationals Down Under with Hackett back in the hunt, coach Jacco Verhaeren will doubtless grant himself a moment to reflect on events back home: Femke Heemskerk on 52.79 in the semis of the 100m free and Sebastiaan Verschuren on 1:46.07 in the heats of the 200m free and then a 1:46.09 in the final at the SwimCup Eindhoven

Major salute to Ms Heemskerk although a sub 53sec was no major surprise given the positive trajectory of her times and her current form. Her final time WILL be interesting. Certainly served “notice” direct to Sjostrom & a very challenging “hare” for both C1&2 to chase next week !

Great swim.. But actually I don’t mind if Heemskerk maintains the #1 ranking heading to Kazan over the Campbell sisters.. Does it really matter between now and then? Once they all start racing at the big stage, then we can see who is actually the fastest swimmer

Viva la Bang

Will be interesting to see if Emma McKeon can get down to 53.0 after her drop of 0.4 in the fly, Cate Campbell is in the kind of form to challenge both the 50m and 100m free WRs, with Bronte and Emma pushing her. Don’t discount Mel Wright either.

It will be tough for Mckeon to swim 53.0 in the final after three rounds of 100 fly and 200 free and two rounds of 100 free.

mckeon has 53.0 in her if she swims it fresh like the Campbells.

The American ladies need to step up especially in the 100free. Maybe we may see a 53 low from Franklin or Neal this summer

My guess is Manuel and Franklin will both go under 53, but I doubt Neal will go 53 low.
