Italy is not going to beat Australia on the medley relay.

After this disappointing 100 breast.. Italy might be one that will be locked out of medley final..

Will be

Italian fan

Even if we must consider that Scozzoli has always been much faster in summer than in April, he appears still far from the swimmer that swam regularly under 60″.

Anyway, in the breast Italy has a great prospect, Nicolò Martinenghi (1999), today second in the B-final of the 100 breast on the verge of 62″, and very strong in the 200 too.

To be fair (and a devil’s advocate),

Italy can upseat Australia if:
a. Australia DQ, or
b. Two of Australia alternates swim much much poorly in the prelims while all of Italy’s top dogs swim their best times in the prelims.

Remember m4x100 prelims in 2013 Barcelona?

Belgium (!) made it to final at 5th, while Australia was locked out of final at 9th because mckeon and Alexander Graham swam inexplicably (maybe thinking they were Thorpe and Hackett? Because they were certainly not ill) so relax at 1:49+

Australia relay selectors certainly made head scratching decisions in the past two years, so it can happen again, although the chance is very small.

Of course I meant m4x200
