Duel In The Pool: USA Vs Europe Could Be As Tight As The Last 132-To-131 Thriller

Duel in The Pool: European All-Stars Vs the USA [Main swimmer images by Patrick B. Kraemer]

On paper, the United States has a very slim chance of winning. But then we’ve been there before. The Duel in the Pool is nigh – and Europe’s All-Stars has a team that can win. It had one last time, too, and only the absence of a couple of key players kept the Old World from upsetting the New. It came down to the 4x50m medley tie-breaker and a world record in the fledgling relay when then USA Vs European All-Stars clashed in 2013. The 2015 battle could be similarly tight

Wez

To bet against the USA has often panned out to be the wrong choice. Time and time again has this super power been in the back seat, and up they rise, like a Phoenix from the Ashes.

To be fair, this is an incredible Euro Team, and quite honestly, if they are going to win, it would be now. Straight off European SC, with some of the big hitters setting European and Global marks.

So here goes, contrary to my opening statement. Euro stars for the win. I can’t see the US getting past the Iron lady, nor the womens sprints. Mens Sprinting will be nail biting, but thats about it. Laszlo could wrap up those fly and medley races quickly, and I don’t know what kind of prep USA has done for this meet. 🙂

Let the fun and Games begin.

Have to agree with Wez that the timing is certainly advantageous to EUR & if ever USA were to be “taken down’; this is probably their best shot.

Craig Lord

Yes, Wez and CWombat but in truth it isn’t ‘Europe’ nor ‘the USA’, of course (it would be great to see such things full on) – its a duel between two teams of excellent ‘availables’ – fine show and racing and doubtless terrific fund for those lucky enough to be there

commonwombat

Granted, Craig, however I DID take the relative personnel of the two teams into account before commenting. Certainly an absentee or two from an optimal EUR line-up but even more telling absentees on the US side.

Certainly not a “done deal” either way but this is potentially the weakest US line-up in ages.

Craig Lord

quite so, Cwombat

Europe is basically missing top swimmers who are swimming in Amsterdam Cup.

Fun first day.
To much jetlag/escm hangovers maybe? 🙂
No Ledecky, I’m sure JazzC is happy about that.

I can not see Phelps doing that much for this US team, not in scm. Shields is your man in scm fly. But who else is missing from the US?

Team Europe is missing a lot of scm swimmers who would strenghten this team. A few French sprinters, a German breastroker, a sweedish superfish, a polish backstroker… just to name a few.

As Craig said, this is prob. not Team USA vs Team Europe, but more two teams of exellent availables. Great fun.
