So Ms. Coutts is in the elite team? Does that mean that she’s kept training after the selection trials, and that she intends to qualify for the Olympics? That’s great news!

Men should be concentrating on relays! Bad bad recent history.

Coutts has not retired?
Jacco needs to get her on the team to replace Elmslie. She’ll be a great relay prelims swimmer.

Also, Emma swims 400?
Interesting.

felixdangerpants

She’s swam a heap of 400s before she moved to Brisbane. Coutts on the team, no way.

Craig Lord

4:09 pb … the bulk of heaps were 4:15 and over… and nothing of any significance since Queensland titles in 2013. It’ll be interesting to see where she is.

Viva la Bang

She did win the 400m at the Aus Short Course in 4 min 0 though, not expecting anything near that here, which is really just an in training time trial!

Adding Coutts to the team to replace Elmslie would serve little practical purpose. She didn’t race any 200 races (fs or IM) at Trials so it’s questionable what she’d add as a 4×200 alternate. With the 4×100, she swam 54mid at Trials but they already have Wilson at 54flat as a heat option & Barratt/Seebohm at similar times to Coutts. Whilst Seebohm has a heavy schedule, Barratt only has 4×200 duties.

Correction; with the Palmer situation a replacement WILL need to be drafted. Not sure, however, that Coutts would be option A.

What is this Palmer situation?

A doping positive from Palmer at the 2013 World Championships has come to light, and she is suspended from representing the Dolphins at the time being.

Unless this was a new technology retest of an old sample like you’ve seen in other sports, how do you take nearly two years to discover a doping positive?

aswimfan

Regardless whether she’s innocent or guilty (there’s not even any suspension by FINA and no CAS hearing or anything), I am glad Palmer withdrew from AUS Worlds team, rather than risking the whole team under controversy.

But if she is convicted and given suspension, I hope she will never pursue any dream of going into Rio.

Meanwhile, convicted swimmers like Hardy, Mellouli, Sun Yang, Efimova, Cielo, etc etc will still swim Kazan.
