Ranomi Kromowidjojo sounds like a swimmer at ease on the eve of the Swim Cup Eindhoven at her home pool and ready to race (update: 24.6 in dash heats her starter): “I’m really feeling good and strong and focussed. My mindset is in the right place; it is really good and I’m looking forward to the Olympics”

History is against Ranomi in repeating as 100 free champion. And given her current competition, winning 100 free will be even a lot more daunting task than it was in 2012.

100 free is the oldest Olympics swimming event for women, but there is only one woman that was able to repeat as the champion, and twice at that.

I think she has her eye on the 50, aswimfan…

I think so too, CL.

I definitely think she has her chance in 50. The last and only time a woman repeating as 50 free Olympics champion is also a Dutch.

Ranomi really is such an exciting swimmer. You can tell by the sparkle in her eyes before each race now that she is racing for one thing and one thing only…. the olympic gold. If I were a Campbell sister or if I were Sjöström I would definitely not underestimate her.

As for the last woman to have repeated 50 gold at Olympics. Inge de Bruijn’s task may have been easier considering that the 50 field in Athens was slower than in Sydney. Same holds for the 100m butterfly (in which she took Bronze in Athens). But one thing does unite these women. They certainly had the olymic flame fueling their hearts.
