When the European Short-Course Championships return to Copenhagen this December, Danish home fans will have an extra good reason to turn up to wave their flags for their local heroes: in the midst of the shoal is an Olympic champion. When Pernille Blume bloomed like never before with a 24.07 in the final of the 50m freestyle in Rio last August, she Denmark celebrated its first Olympic gold since 1948. A rare moment pending, then: that when a Danish Olympic swimming champion gets to race at a home international in front of home fans.
