China Club Of Doping Cases Grows By Three Swimmers & Coach: Same Drug As Chen In Rio

Li Xuanxu, Huang Chaocheng, Yang Zhixian (and coach Fen Zhen) are the latest names from Chinese swimming to join the list of positive tests for banned substances. The three Chinese national swimming team members have been served suspensions of between six months and a year after they tested positve for the same substance that disqualified teenager Chen Xinyi during the Olympic Games in Rio last month.

If all they are getting is six months to one year, or three months as has been the case, then they will just laugh at the risks involved. Such lenient suspensions are contemptuous to the sport and athletes.

Quite so, Ger. For the same offence in 1998, the Chinese got 2 years and more. If FINA accepts these suspensions without challenge then swimming’s anti-doping fight will have taken several retrograde steps and the belly laughs at suggestions of zero-tolerance will get all the louder. They are not serious.
