Why did Ledecky and Coughlin scratched the 50 free finals?

ASF, Ledecky didn’t make the final of the 50. She scratched the ‘C’ final. Coughlin, I think, just decided to focus on the 100 back.

Rowdy Gaines saying Franklin had a great start in the 100 back: I don’t know what he was watching, she was miles back. But she was really happy to go under the minute and will take a few positives from it, as the interview after the race illustrates:
