Michael Phelps,, Allison Schmitt and Dana Vollmer are starting to look their old selves again. The same can’t be said for Grant Hackett. He went 1.52 in the 200 and 3.55 in the 400 when earlier this year with less training under his belt he was able to go 1.46 and 3.46. Is there any indication as to what might have gone wrong?

Unfortunately, it is true, John and Alison Schmitt will be 26 at Rio. The age that qualifies her a veteran. Therefore even her full recovery may not guarantee super fast results. Her returning back is like a story of returning back American condors. People just don’t want this incredible talent to vanish that soon.
What she and Camille Muffat accomplished in London is a milestone in women swimming. I think sometimes that should they be a little bit slower, not to exhaust themself, leaving some targets to challenge there would be no following depression hit for both of them and we could see Allison flourish and Camille among us.
If Schmitt is able to stay firmly at least at current level it will be enough to get through trials and compete in two individual finals in Rio.

Given Hardy’s inconsistency at the 100 breast and Breeja Larson plateauing a bit since her 2-12 breakthrough year, the Americans are glad to see King starting to emerge and fill a certain Soni-shaped hole they’ve had since Rebecca’s retirement.

Another solid swim for Vollmer. Remember that, unlike some women who can moderately exercise pretty much until their delivery day, she was on full bed rest for 7 weeks earlier in the year in order to help her get her pregnancy successfully to more or less term.

Too bad Team USA can only send two women to represent the 2Free individual in Rio. Right now looks like Katie and Allison will be the ones to qualify. Regardless, that is going to be one crazy 4×200 relay!
