By the close of the day, Ben Proud and Cameron McEvoy are likely to have company in the 2017 sub-22sec dash club given a couple of 22 flats clocked in heats of nationals in South Africa and Italy this morning. Down in Durban, where Chad Le Clos, Olympic silver medallist over 100 ‘fly at London 2012 and Rio 2016 set the pace at 52.63 on the way to a butterfly double, Brad Tandy rose to fourth on the world rankings with a 22.07 in the 50m freestyle heats. More than 13,000km but just 0.02sec away in Riccione, Luca Dotto clocked 22.09, Lorenzo Zazzeri on 22.18
