Anton Chupkov Sets WJR; Minna Atherton’s 59.8 ‘WJR’ Hangs On Latest FINA Fudge

Minna Atherton - off to a cracking start in Singapore with two 59s [Swimming Australia]

Minna Atherton (AUS) and Anton Chupkov (RUS) set a speedy tone on the first morning of action at the World Junior Championships in Singapore. From Chupkov, 18, a 1:00.12 in the heats of the 100m breaststroke. From Atherton, 15, a 59.83 100m backstroke that fell just shy of what we believe to be the world junior record of 59.78 set last year. Either way, more FINA fudge makes it to the book of swimming history

Nice swim from the American Boy to kick things off. Can’t help but think “Meh” though compared to 2 years ago…

Wez,
crazy times indeed!I remember Cesar Cielo doing 23.2 at sixteen and blowing away the field by near a second in a National Junior Champs in 2003.And now we have 14years-old capable to do 22.7…*feeling old*
