Thanks for reporting.

I don’t know what swimmers themselves think about swimming so close to the boats and docks but it surely gives a good opportunity for spectators to see open water swimming well. I hope it doesn’t pay anything except for the grandstand beside the finish area as it’s an excellent way to promote the happening as a whole as people who are just going by can stop and enjoy the view for some time.

I agree completely!

Is anyone going to be streaming the swimming — prelims and finals — live so that we can see them directly here in the USA?

I’ve been looking around but found nothing but bits and pieces of delayed broadcasts — and not a whole lot of that.

Do you have any better info for those of us NOT in Barcelona?

I’d rather say 0.2 s, not 0.02 s . Open Water Swimming is timed at the tenth of a second, not at the hundredth. 😉

Everyone has been searching high and low and so far are coming up empty handed. This is just plain wrong that we have NO access to internet live prelims and finals. How did this happen?????

Broadcast rights – people pay for the right and so they will not give it away for free… big money

A slip of the 0s… tweaked. thanks Giorgio 🙂

In Finland public broadcaster paid for the right to show these and then they don’t show it anyway. Only cut and shortened coverage at the night time when there is no one watching, and nothing live!

But yes, people paid for it as this whole wasting of rights was made by taxpayers’ money. And thanks for the outrageous circumstance, we’re blocked from other services because our public broadcaster decided “to show” the meeting. FINA really needs to add preconditions to its contracts which require the contracting party actually use its rights as it may otherwise just harm aquatics.

Events such as Women’s soccer, junior athletics, orienteering etc. at the national or European level get the full coverage live.
