And The Top Prize For Shooting Self In Foot Goes To: Paolo Barelli (0-Tolerance, FINA?)

Gabriele Detti by Patrick B. Kraemer

Paolo Barelli, the FINA Hon. Sec and head of the European Swimming League (LEN) as well as the Italian federation, phoned in from the remoteness of his leadership to hand out the main prizes at an Italian invitation meet in Lignano today. The points score at the end of two days of racing at the Energy Standard Cup was:
1st: Weak stance on doping in swimming – 10 points
2nd: Worst message you could send to juniors at the meet – 9 points
3rd: Acceptance and tolerance of offenders and repeat offenders – 8 points
Wooden Spoon: FINA’s supposed ‘Zero-Tolerance’ on doping
There was also an honorary prize for Barelli and the event sponsors Energy Standard, joint recipients of the “How to get it woefully wrong in this season of WADA inquiry”.
