Looks like the only leading light not on the roster is Franny [Halsall]. Still an impressive lineup for the Brits w/many of those names a good bet to make plane to Rio next year and perhaps contend for spots on the podium too.

Will Britain select its Rio squad before next year’s ECs? If they hold a Trials meet in April which is usually the case then swimming a month later @ ECs for those who made Olympic team rather like the USA’s Arena Pro Series where most top competitors take a somewhat relaxed approach.

But if Britain uses the ECs as a Trials selection meet times could be very fast indeed — as I imagine many European nations will also make that competition their selection Trials.

For the first time in many moons GBR has some real Olympic medal prospects in both sexes.

Now if only Coach Rudd can convince the Queen it’s a matter of “vital national interest” to have the reigning Olympic woman’s 100 breast gold-medalist/world record-holder represent the “Land of Hope and Glory” @ Rio and a few coin of the realm were proffered to the Lithuanian Federation…!

Craig Lord

Yes, Bill 🙂 would be lovely to have Ruta as GBR but that’s not going to happen, she’s wedded to her nation and they treat her and Jon and others very well – so good on them.

GBR trials will be April… here’s Bill F’s take on that:

Liam Tancock is also missing in the list. I hope he hasn’t retired.

V/good.

We’ll see how it all works out @ Rio.

Just as a matter of personal preference were.i a nation’s head coach j’d insist on having our Trials meet finish either on the last day entries are due or the day before, then hop on a plane, head for a brief training camp and then hie oneself to The Big Dance.

Ross Murdoch is also missing and an olympic medal hopeful. Should be some great swimming this weekend then!

for33: Liam tweeted earlier this evening that he would be racing in Flanders, and he’s on the start list for the 50/100 back swimming for Loughborough Uni rather than Great Britain. As he’s not funded by British Swimming any more, perhaps that’s why he’s not on the press release?

Craig Lord

Yes, Kat… he is not with the British team, and thus not listed as such – I link to the start lists in the article – a few others there for clubs

STIRLO

Craig, do you know if there’s a link to results for Flanders, or even live results? My Dutch is not so good!
